Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SCS SB 270 - ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGES

SPONSOR:  Schneider (Monaco)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Judiciary by a vote of 17 to 0.

This substitute requires that a chief administrative law judge
be elected for a 2-year term in executive branch agencies that
employ more than one administrative law judge.

The substitute has an effective date of January 1, 2002.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill will increase the
effectiveness, productivity, and training of the administrative
law judges in the executive branch agencies to which it applies.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Schneider.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
